ZUBERI CLAN HISTORY

Zuberi family is one of the fortunate families whose history is completely traceable to the time of Hazrat Muhammad. (SAW) Hazrat Zubair (RAA) Bin Awam was not only the first cousin of the Prophet (SAW) but was also one of his closest companions. He was known for his velour and bravery and is remembered as the conqueror of Egypt in 19 AH. He embraced martyrdom in 36 AH. Hazrat Zubair was laid to rest in Basra, near the borders of Kuwait and Iraq. This town was named as AL-ZUBAIR.

Hazrat Zubair had 12 sons and 9 daughters. Three of his famous sons were Hazrat Abdullah, Hazrat Musab and Hazrat Urwah. Hazrat Abdullah was a Muslim caliph at Makkah, Hazrat Musab was the governor of Kufa in 73 AH and Hazrat Urwa was the first Muslim historian.

After almost 50 years of the conquest of Sindh by Muhammad Bin Qasim, Zuberis started migrating from Makkah and Madina towards Sindh. Most of them settled at place near modern Dadu. By the end of 4th century AH Zuberis started migrating from Sindh to Multan. During 14th century AD portion of Zuberi clan migrated to Delhi. Hazrat Sheikh Samauddin Zuberi was a famous Sufi who led this migration.

Afterwards Zuberi family flourished in Lahore, Panipat, Delhi and Sumbal. During the regime of Mughal Emperor Akber Zuberis also got settled in Meerut. Marehra also became centre of the family activities in 15th century AD. In Marehra “Kanboh Mohallah” was having largest concentration of Zuberis. Around 100 of the houses at Marehra were then owned by Zuberis. Worth mentioning here that an old cast kanboh has nothing to do with Zuberi Family History, the misconception is due to the living place in Mahrera.

During the post Indo-Pak partition period most of the Zuberis migrated from India to Pakistan and got settled at Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi. Currently member of Zuberi Clan are settled all over the world with a prominent number at Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi / Islamabad, Saudi Arabia, Gulf States, United Kingdome and United States.

THE ZUBERI ASSOCIATION

First attempt to organize Zuberis at one platform was made by Moulvi Saeed Ahmed of Marehra and Sufi Shamsuddin of Panipat back in 1932. Moulvi Bashir uddin, Moulvi Muhammad Amin and Mr. Abdul Wahab supported the idea.

The first Kanboh conference, named after the living place of most zuberi family members (see picture), was held at Meerut in December 1933. It was presided by Moulvi Bashir uddin and Moulvi Muhammad Amin acted as the Secretary of the conference. About 100 delegates from different cities of then Indo-Pak attended the event. Nawab Amirullah and Mr. Tahir Hussain also took active part in conference.

Second conference was held at Meerut in 1935 and was presided by Dr. Zia uddin Ahmed. The secretary of the conference was Mr. Niamat Elahi. Among other active participants was Chaudry Muhammad Saleh who provided conference with history of family and discussed the prevailing circumstances of the Zuberi Family. Nine resolutions relating to problems of Zuberi family were adopted during the conference.

In 1936, the third family conference was held at Bareilly which was presided over by Sir Muhammad Yamin Khan. Mr. Abdul Wahab Zuberi acted as the secretary of the conference. Unity and Simplicity were topics of important resolutions. During 1940 due to the stagnated activity of family conferences Zuberi students of Aligarh University formed Zuberi Association. In 1942 due to the efforts of Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed Zuberi a Zuberi Youth conference was organized at Marehra. From 1942 to 1947 the activities of Zuberi Association at Aligarh continued with the participation of Mr. Hilal Ahmed Zuberi, Mr. Hameed Ahmed Zuberi, Mr. Zafar Umar Zuberi, Mr. Mustafa Ahmed Zuberi, Mr. Bashir Mahmood Zuberi and Mr. Murtaza Ahmed Zuberi. The association dissolved with the partition in 1947.

The idea of organizing Zuberi Family members again flourished in 1961 at Karachi when Dr. Muhammad Yasin Zuberi and Mr. Ashraf Ali Zuberi managed the formation of Zuberi Youth Association. In 1963, Mr. Muhammad Hussain Khan Zuberi was elected as the President of the Zuberi Youth Association. The activities of association continued for five years. Eid Millan Parties and other get-to-gathers, sports festivals, variety programs were organized and scholarships were distributed among deserving children of the family. The association also published the first ever Zuberi directory in 1966.

In 1961 some very young members of Zuberi family also took active part in family activities and formed the Zuberi Children’s Association. Master Nasim Ahmed Zuberi and Master Mazher Ali Zuberi were among the founders of this family organization. In 1962 the children association also organized their first Annual Function. Fortunately Mr. Nasim Ahmed Zuberi is still serving the Association with his wise experience and knowledge.

During year 1975, Mr. Muhammad Hussain Khan Zuberi handed over important association papers from Zuberi Youth Association to Professor Zafar Umar Zuberi and asked him to reorganize the association. Hence the seed of existing Zuberi Association was planted in 1975. Following were the founder members of Zuberi Association.

(1) Zafar Umar Zuberi (2) Inam Mustafa Kamal (3) Jamil Zuberi (4) Murtaza Ahmed Khan Zuberi (5) Dr. Sarwar Jehan Zuberi (6) Ms. Yousuf Jehan Zuberi (7) Gohar Hussain Khan (8) Muhammad Arif (9) Wahid Ahmed Zuberi (10) Zia-ul-Hassan Zuberi (11) Saeedullah Zuberi (12) Mubarak Shah Zuberi (13) Khursheed Hassan Zuberi [Islam Waris].
Mr. Murtaza Ahmed Khan Zuberi is now a days the President of association. Mr. Jamil Zuberi (see picture) also remained an active participant of the association till some time before.

Constitution of the Association was established and the Association was registered on December 18, 1976 under the Voluntary Social Agencies Ordinance.
